What’s in BabyShield?

BabyShield is a milk-based formula, made with a balance of key nutrients for each stage of growth. Here are some of the nutrients you will find in the BabyShield range. Ingredients and amounts vary by stage; refer to the label.

Protein

Made up of essential and non-essential amino acids, protein is a basic building block of the body. It provides energy and is needed for growth and repair of body cells, muscles and bones.

Nucleotides

Nucleotides are the building blocks of DNA and RNA and occur naturally in breast milk. They take part in many of the body’s normal processes, including tissue growth and repair.

Lactoferrin

A protein found naturally in milk, including breast milk.

Taurine

An amino acid found naturally in breast milk. It is involved in fat digestion and absorption.

Fats (omega-3 and omega-6)

Fats are an important source of energy in the early stages of growth. They help the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K).

ARA and DHA

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids found naturally in breast milk.

Carbohydrates (GOS and FOS)

Carbohydrates are a main source of energy. BabyShield contains oligosaccharides: galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS).

Vitamins and minerals

Different vitamins and minerals serve different purposes in normal growth and body function.

Carotenoids (beta-carotene and lutein)

Beta-carotene is converted by the body into vitamin A. Lutein is a carotenoid found naturally in breast milk.

Choline

A nutrient found naturally in breast milk, which plays a part in normal development.

Important notice

Breast milk is best for babies. Breastfeeding provides the ideal nutrition for infants. Good maternal nutrition helps to establish and maintain breastfeeding. Introducing partial bottle feeding may reduce breast milk supply, and reversing a decision not to breastfeed can be difficult.

Before you decide to use an infant formula, talk to your doctor, midwife, maternal and child health nurse or other health professional. Infant formula should be used only on the advice of a health professional. Always follow the preparation, feeding and storage directions on the label exactly; improper preparation or storage may make your baby ill.

BabyShield 3 is a toddler milk drink for children aged 1–3 years. It is not a breast milk substitute and should be used as part of a varied, balanced diet.
